Ortho K Lenses
What Are Ortho K Lenses?
Orthokeratology (which we call ‘Eyedream’) is a therapy where corrective contact lenses are worn overnight to gently reshape the cornea.
It is used primarily to correct shortsightedness and is being used increasingly to combat the progression of childhood myopia.
Overnight Vision Correction
Sight correction without surgery may sound too good to be true and it’s not for everyone unfortunately. Ortho K lenses may be an option for you if you:
-
Work in a dry, dusty, smoky or wet environment
-
Suffer from allergies such as hay fever
-
Want clear, natural vision during the day
-
Want to be free from lenses for sports or outdoor activities (especially water sports)
-
Have progressive myopia (shortsightedness), particularly in children.
Who Is Suitable For Ortho K?
Ortho K lenses are painless and suitable for adults and children.
It is most effective for patients with low to medium degrees of short sight, and there are also other variables such as the complexity of the corneal shape and the rigidity of the cornea itself, so a full assessment will be required to see this treatment is appropriate.
Corneal Topography
The process of corneal topography produces a contour map of the front of your eye, which provides invaluable information for assessing what type of contact lens will correctly fit the cornea.
It is essential when fitting ‘Eyedream’ lenses and larger gas permeable lenses for more complex corneal conditions. Bespoke gas permeable contact lenses can be manufactured specifically for your eyes, giving you greater comfort and better vision.
